Bio
I have to admit, I don't really know what a good example of a Bio might be. I suppose there should be some kind of short synopsis of my life and that should display pertinence to my career as an artist. I know some artists use their bio to list every show and residency they've ever been in, but there's already a place on this website for all that. I think that gives me the opportunity to concoct something different. Stay tuned as I experiment with the content here.
One thing I want to use my Bio for is a bit of a shout out. I want to give all due credit to the people who've helped to make me the person I am. I trust that you all know who you are. Family and friends throughout have helped to guide me. I'm thankful for all of the love, support and constructive criticisms. Opportunities have afforded me valuable perspectives. And people keep me grounded.
From here, I want to go on to the big ideas. I'm working on a Theory of Everything (TOE). And my art is an important part of that. I think it's a way of imbuing physical objects with qualities beyond their obvious three dimensions. Art is a way of tying consciousness, as concept and emotion, to the world around us. My TOE still needs fleshing out, but I think our perceptive senses are more entwined with the multiple dimensions of this universe (as many as ten or more) than we have yet realized. In the sense of attaching myself to a myth, I'm looking for the philosopher's stone. I want to steal fire from the gods. I want the sheer vastness of possibility to be apparent to everyone.
But beside the big ideas and the big people, there's just me. And as I go, I'll try to find new ways to present myself in this format. But feel free to ask any questions of me. That's what my contact info is up for.
Amendment: Theory of Everything is a bit too aggressive as a starting point for my work. Instead let's think about the simple and complex. Depending on context and presentation, any one subject can exhibit either complexity or simplicity. I want to open doors, so to speak, between these worlds. How can we travel from simple to complex and back? I feel like this is a very broad and bountiful landscape to be traveling in. With art as vehicle and traveling companion, I try to find ways to put simple and complex in the same piece, in the same context. I want to take subject matter from something as complex as advertising and reduce it to something as simple as beauty. I want to use simple colors and lines to breed wild, undecipherable, complex narratives and scenarios. I think there's room in that for everyone to find something valuable.
